When You Pray, Expect the Unexpected

Our Father Knows Best

Sometimes God gives us exactly what we ask for, when we ask for it. But when His answers don’t come right away, it’s often because He has something much better for us. This series discusses some of the many ways God answers prayer.

A Dime Now or a Dollar Later

Many years ago, a wise man offered his two beloved nephews a gift: A dime today, or a dollar next week. The younger boy took the dime and ran to the store to buy a handful of candy. The older nephew’s mouth watered as he watched his brother enjoy the sweets, but he waited patiently for the week to pass. He received the promised dollar, and bought a toy that he enjoyed for a long time afterward.

This story illustrates how God may hold back something we want, or give us something different, which in the long term will prove to be much better. He tells us that “My ways are higher than your ways, and My thoughts higher than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:9). God’s “yes” to your prayer might look very different from what you expect.

How God Answered “Yes” Unexpectedly

God revealed Himself to the Israelites, and promised a Messiah, who would deliver His people. They expected a political saviour, who would restore the physical nation of Israel, overcome its oppressors, and draw people from every nation to God. When Jesus was betrayed and turned over for execution to the Romans (the very ones they wanted to be delivered from), the hopes of the Jews were dashed.

But God had an even greater plan, to meet the needs and conquer the enemies of ALL people. God’s plan was for “reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them” (2 Corinthians 5:19). Scripture promised, “He will remove the cloud of gloom... that hangs over the earth. He will swallow up death forever!” (Isaiah 25:7-8).

God’s plan for the world goes beyond human politics, includes ALL nations (not just Israel), and can set ALL people free from sin and death. His answer to their prayers was not what Israel expected, but in fact was far better. His “yes” answer to your prayers might also be beyond what you can imagine.

​Berhasil kah utk lembaga publik menjalankan metode McKinsey 7-s framework?

 Kerangka kerja 7S-McKinsey harus dipikirkan sebagai satu kesatuan dari tujuh kompas. Apabila ketujuh hal tersebut saling terkait, lembaga publik akan terbentuk dengan baik. Namun saya lebih menyoroti variabel McKinsey pada “Style” (gaya manajemen organisasi). Faktor budaya di dalam organisasi, yaitu nilai-nilai budaya yang berkembang dalam organisasi dapat dijadikan sebagai suatu pedoman perilaku dan gaya kerja. Hal ini tidak kalah penting dan mendasar dari variabel lainnya.

Era modern seperti sekarang ini sudah banyak terungkap kasus-kasus tercela di dalam lembaga publik, dalam hal ini kasus korupsi. Tidak dapat dipungkiri lembaga publik telah menjadi sorotan masyarakat. Masyarakat awam tentunya menilai pejabat publik/birokrat dengan buruk, apalagi jika mereka menilai dari sisi akademik pejabat publik/birokrat, dalam hal ini almamater kampus mereka. Tentunya hal ini menjadi citra buruk juga bagi almamater yang dicap “kampus pencetak koruptor”. Secara tidak langsung orang lain yang berkuliah di kampus tersebut juga dicap demikian. Tentu hal ini tidak etis mengingat tidak semua orang berperilaku korup. Tidak boleh begitu saja men’generalisasi’ seseorang secara demikian.

Jika ditanya apakah berhasil dijalankannya metode McKinsey 7-s framework dalam lembaga publik, saya jawab belumkarena dalam fakta di lapangan, hampir semua lembaga publik dari atas hingga tingkat terbawah sudah digerogoti sifat korup.

Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi (KPK) tentu tidak sanggup sendirian memberantas korupsi di negeri ini. Seluruh masyarakat perlu ikut berkontribusi di dalamnya. Belakangan kasus korupsi yang dikaitkan pada mantan jendral pajak berinisial ‘HD’ menunjukkan kasus yang sepertinya dinilai ‘usang’  karena terjadi pada awal era 2000an lalu pun masih bisa diketahui penyelewengan jabatannya. Hal ini sejalan dengan pepatah “sepandai-pandainya tupai melompat pasti akan jatuh juga”.

Dalam pengandaian saya, jika seorang anak kecil sudah melakukan korupsi kecil, maka ada kemungkinan setelah ia dewasa akan melakukan korupsi yang besar (misal kalau bekerja di lembaga publik). Sejalan dengan bahasan di atas tadi, jika sifat korup sudah menjalar hingga akar pemerintahan, maka variabel McKinsey “Style korup” akan menjadi gaya manajemen lembaga publik yang bobrok.

Pagi itu saya beribadah Jumat Agung. Bahagia rasanya hidup beribadah didalam KRISTUS. Waktu itu saat pujian penyembahan saya meresapi kata demi kata lagu pujian yang dinyanyikan, sambil memanggil Yesus saya merasakan hadiratNYA yang luar biasa sambil mengakui dosa-dosa saya dihadapanNYA. Tiba-tiba saja badan saya terasa kaku, sulit untuk digerakkan, melipat tangan saja susah rasanya. Saya merasa iblis sedang menggoncang saya, iblis takut saya bertobat! Belum pernah sebelumnya saya merasakan goncangan seperti itu. Dalam keadaan seperti itu saya terus memanggil Nama Yesus, Yesus, Yesus. Beberapa menit setelah itu, akhirnya saya dibebaskan TUHAN dari keadaan kaku seperti itu. Saya percaya saya telah menang didalam KRISTUS YESUS. Haleluya!

Testimony 15 April 2014 

Shalom! 

I worship that morning Friday. Feels happy to live godly in Christ. That time when I praise worship permeates verbatim hymns are sung, while I felt the presence of Jesus calling incredible while acknowledging my sins before him. Suddenly my body feels stiff, difficult to move, just fold your hands it feels hard. I felt the devil was rocked me, the devil scared me repented! Never before I felt like it was shaking. In such circumstances I kept calling the name of Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. A few minutes after that, I finally released the Lord of such a rigid state. I believe I have won in CHRIST JESUS​​. Hallelujah!
